Ever thought about being a scientist?? Or searching for ETs (Extra Terrestrials) after watching ET or Aliens or any one of those Hollywood sci-fi flicks?? Im sure everyone of us must have contemplated about becoming a rocket scientist and serve humanity by searching for those ETs lurking somewhere around the corner of our galaxy….
Well, heres your chance… Modern computing has brought to our doorsteps what is being referred to as Volunteer Computing. Its where you can donate (read contribute) that EXTRA bit of your computer’s resources to SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) for its ongoing search for aliens.. With Volunteer Computing, users from around the globe can contribute to ongoing projects others being Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS). Already thousands of computers have been dedicated to these research programmes by users from all around the world.
Interested people can log on to this website SETI@HOME for further details. Its upto you to choose how much resource you want to contribute to this project, when do you want to share your computer’s resources so trust me its completely user-friendly.
