In the Land-Of-the-Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King.

January 27, 2009

Never had one thought that with the advances in technology, economy (forget about recession for now) and medicine, the one thing that would decline is our society and our ability to think. Something as trivial as “Freedom” would come with a heavy price tag. Something as common as “Expression” would come with restraint. Something as precious as “Life” would become cheaper than a penny.

Welcome to the Land of the Blind. We are its citizens. And the One-Eyed Man is the King.

The One-Eyed Man cannot see anything beyond Power because he has lost the eye that would show Compassion.

I write this as the One-Eyed Man is spreading his tentacles all over the world. Like Indian Gods, it too has many forms –

  • It is the Taliban in Afghanisthan and now even in a province of Pakistan.
  • It is the Somali Pirate in oceans.
  • It is the Mugabe of Zimbabwe.
  • It is the Israel in Gaza.
  • It is the USA in Iraq.
  • It is the MNS, Sri Ram Sena, Naxalite in India. (the One-Eyed Man has many other forms here – true to 33 crore deities in India).
  • It is the Osama in Europe, America, Asia…. practically everywhere.

The One-Eyed Man’s breakfast is freedom, lunch is happiness, dinner is hope and dessert is blood. We as honourable citizens of this Land can only raise voices as we cannot see where the One-Eyed man lives. As the third monkeys of Gandhi, we can only pray that the One-Eyed man doesn’t sets his eye on us.

All that we can hope that our prayers get answered.

I agree with some of your sentiments — the biggest issue for me is American unconditional support for Israel, in particular Israel’s building of settlements, which makes peace impossible, the situation a time bomb and USA weak and lost of principles.
I found your blog because I use the same expression often…I’ve heard it is an old Arab expression.
Anyway, many smart, capable people all around the world are working to rectify a lot of evils…have faith
